4.6 Summary

In this section we have:

  • Considered what phrasing actually means in a technical sense, and the ways in which conductors can indicate it
  • Explored different approaches to beat patterns of 5 & 6
  • Looked at irregular time signatures and mixed meters and developed approaches to marking these in scores, and how to practise them
  • Understood the damage we can cause when the whole ensemble plays off the beat
