7. Early Career Conductors: video series

When you have completed your studies, you will hopefully get the opportunity to work in a variety of artistic contexts and be prepared to accept major challenges in a national and international music community. Your fellow students and your instructors will be important allies on your conducting journey. While the steps you take to reach a professional career may look a bit different from some of your peers, most conductors share many similar experiences when facing the music industry for the first time.

In this section of the Careers Office, you will find a number of interviews with conductors in the early stages of their career talking about their personal journey – where and when they studied; what they did before becoming a conductor; how they got their career started; challenges they faced; how they got an agent and much more. Their common aim is to pass on knowledge and experience and give you insight into how one may tackle different challenges as you are starting out.

Please note that most of these interviews were filmed during the Covid-19 pandemic and that social restrictions have affected the quality of the interviews. The conductors’ biographies have been extracted from their official agencies and personal web pages (August 2021). The views and opinions of the interviewees are personal and the ConductIT team does not endorse any particular opinion.
