Partner Institutions
ConductIT is a partnership between four European Higher Education Institutions: University of Stavanger (Norway), the Royal Northern College of Music (UK), the Open University (UK) and University of Aveiro (Portugal). Each partner has vast experience in the field of education and music and is actively involved in the creation of the ConductIT resource.
University of Stavanger
The University of Stavanger (UiS) on the South West Coast of Norway is situated in the most attractive region in the country, with some 300,000 inhabitants.
In constant collaboration and dialogue with the surroundings, regionally, nationally and internationally, they enjoy an open and creative climate for education, research, innovation, dissemination and museum activities. UiS has an innovative and international profile and is a driving force in knowledge development and in the process of societal change.
Stavanger is the oil and energy capital of Norway with a dynamic job market and exciting culture- and leisure activities on offer. The interplay between the university and society and business is rich and diverse. Academic life at the University of Stavanger is organised into six faculties comprising various departments/schools and National Research Centres, as well as the Museum of Archaeology .
The Faculty of Performing Arts is a 75-year-old institution which arranges up to 200 concerts and performance each academic year. The faculty is beautifully located in Bjergsted Cultural Park, with immediate proximity to Stavanger Concert Hall, Stavanger Symphony Orchestra, and several other actors from the professional and voluntary music and cultural life.
Royal Northern College of Music
The Royal Northern College of Music , also known as the RNCM is a leading international conservatoire located in the heart of Manchester, with a reputation for attracting talented students, teachers, conductors and composers from all over the world.
Now in its fifth decade, the RNCM is relatively young, but its rich history spans back to 1893 when Sir Charles Hallé founded the Royal Manchester College of Music. In 1973, this institution merged with the Northern School of Music, and the RNCM was born.Today, the
College is a thriving conservatoire with around 320 teaching staff and 880 students from nearly 60 different countries.
Complementing this role, the RNCM is also a vibrant live music venue offering unparalleled opportunities for students to perform regularly to public audiences and to work alongside professional musicians and visiting artists. Housing four major performance spaces, including a professionally-staffed, fully-equipped Theatre and recently refurbished Concert Hall, the College presents more than 400 concerts each year, ranging from RNCM orchestras and ensembles and large-scale opera productions, to a host of touring companies and external hires.
The 2014 Research Excellence Framework (REF) rated the RNCM the UK’s leading music college for research and in 2017 the College was ranked Gold in the Higher Education Funding Council for England’s first Teaching Excellence Framework. The RNCM has also been awarded two Times Higher Education Awards: Excellence and Innovation in the Arts (2015) and Outstanding International Student Strategy (2016).
The Open University
The Open University was established by Royal Charter on 23 April 1969 and celebrated its 50th birthday in 2019. They are the leading university for flexible, innovative teaching and world-leading research in the United Kingdom and in 157 countries worldwide. University of Aveiro
Created in 1973, the University of Aveiro quickly became one of the most dynamic and innovative universities in Portugal. Now a public foundation under private law, it continues to develop and implement its mission to provide undergraduate and postgraduate education, to generate research and promote cooperation with society. Attended by about 15,000 students on undergraduate and postgraduate programmes, the UA has achieved a significant position amongst higher education institutions in Portugal, being one of the top universities regarding the quality of its infrastructures, the strength of its research and the excellence of its staff. The UA is a highly regarded institution of research led education, constituted by university departments, research units, polytechnic schools, interface units, and a vocational education network. Its integrated structure permits the articulation and harmonisation of the teaching and research environments, and enables the construction of individual educational paths, from post-secondary technological specialisation programmes to doctoral degrees.
